Most people who looked at Kai only bothered to see what rested on the surface. They merely glanced his way and noted the grungy blue hair, they noticed how unstable his temper was, paid attention to how smoothly the words rolled from his silver tongue. Even those who knew him never cared enough to peer further, to find out what lie just underneath the mask.
And that was fair, for the simple fact that Kai had designed his mask not to be lifted. No one was supposed to be capable of peeking just under the edge, it had been created to be almost like a permanent fixture on his personality; a shroud that must never be removed, must never reveal what it kept hidden from the world.
