I am very biased, and about to get a bit carried away here, so I apologize in advance.
Buffy is indeed considered more of a ‘teen’ show, however many adults can and will find ways to relate to it and love it as well. The show matured as the seasons progress. Overall, it touches on themes such as addiction, self-harm, suicide, rape, familial issues, loss of parents, loss of friends, abusive relationships and more. It was a groundbreaking series when it came to having a strong female lead, as well as strong female characters throughout. It also housed the first healthy and loving lesbian relationship on TV screens—and not just implied, either. The show has been studied by critics, scholars, and college students alike.
It encompasses a wide variety of genres such as horror, comedy, romance, drama, thriller, sci-fi, action/adventure and more. It includes a spectacularly done musical episode, and episode with no score at all, and a nearly-silent episode.
It’s more than vampires and witches and teenage drama. It’s a coming-of-age story, about discovering oneself and learning to live with your choices and mistakes that come with being an adult.
I will always, always advocate that everyone watch BtVS due to the many reasons listed above. ❤️
